Review: Chef Mickey Character Breakfast Gluten Free/Allergy Friendly options

Save this post for later

Chef Mickey is headed out from the kitchen to say hi to all his friends, and he’s brought the rest of his kitchen staff with Him!

What do you get for your dining? A very fun, pretty loud, and super cute Character Meal with 5 characters and some classic eats.

We finally made it back (this is before characters have made a date to return to hugging) and had a really good experience with two young kids and managing food allergies! See all about the Magic Kingdom Resort food options if you are in the area!

Quick Notes

Location: Contemporary Resort

Breakfast Price: 42 for adults, and 27 for kids 3-9 (plus tax and gratuity)

Characters: Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Goofy and Donald (the fab five)

Food Allergy Menu for breakfast at Chef Mickey’s

When I head to the restaurant I state my allergen and ask to speak to a Chef or coordinator (plus check out the allergy menu)

The chef shared that there is very little soy or nuts for breakfast (while lots of gluten/wheat, dairy and eggs). The sprinkles are safe for most allergens, but have soy lethicin so we left them off. Chef Mickey’s is famous for sprinkles on everything! (They have dyes)

For starters we grabbed plain/strawberry yogurt and fruits (this was modified). They did have Donuts (kinninnicink brand) but we declined those as they are quite sweet and my kids get them far too often.

Followed up with the main course which we also modified for our allergens. I grabbed a few of the meat options (they do have plant based) some regular eggs (they have JustEgg substitute too) and the top 8 friendly Mickey Waffles. The waffles are made on a dedicated fryer and are labeled gluten free!

Plus we grabbed some modified potatoes (no seasoning and olive oil not canola oil!)

Here’s a look at the menu. It doesn’t show everything that’s available for breakfast… be sure to talk with qualified staff about accommodations and what they have in the back!

Would you enjoy this option? And Do I Recommend it?

Go here if:

  • You want to see several characters at once
  • You are looking for more of an ‘all you care to enjoy’ food option
  • You are at Magic Kingdom or nearby resort and can easily access this location
  • You’d like to get well lit character pictures
  • It’s a family tradition/bucket list item for you

This is an enjoyable option and it’s been a fan favorite for a long time! It is very noisy and somewhat cheesy… making it great for kids or kids at heart.

I would not consider Chef Mickey’s for a formal celebration or even a place for great pictures (As there are many other character meals that have better backdrops and lighting) but it is certainly not the worst character meal option (tusker house has awful lighting unless you are at the perfect window table).

Final Summary

I’d easily recommend this as a great character meal. It’s got the fab five, there are lots of options for meals/accommodations (especially if you have a limited diet or picky eater). It is not really a fancy option, and you won’t be “Wowed” by incredible creations, but you will be able to enjoy a full meal and meet some of the best characters around!
