Review: Akershus Character Dining Gluten Free /Allergy Friendly EPCOT

I was very apprehensive about this location looking at the Allergy Menu online, but more than meets the eye at Akershus Character Dining!

Bonus, I had a server who managed 6 out of the top 8 allergens. While I don’t wish allergens on anyone, I love how this community comes together to make sure everyone gets to eat! Our Server walked us through some hidden menu items and modifications the Chef wasn’t even aware of for a truly great meal.

While you’re here at EPCOT, see the EPCOT Food Allergy Guide for reviews, tips and recommendations of the food here. Another close by Table Service location that I recommend is Coral Reef, and also the Maple Popcorn at the entrance to Canada is a delightfully sweet find!

⭐ If this is your First Time to Disney World, you’ll want all the insider tips and done for you plans found in the Food Allergies at Disney World Made Easy Guide , If you’ve been here before and just need the best places to eat and snacks, see the Touring Plan and Snack Guide. Just Gluten Free? There’s a guide for that too!

    Akershus Allergy Menu

This is currently a Family Style Meal. Should it change over to a Buffet, see this post for managing Buffets safely at Disney World.

Not on the menu: Bloomfield Rolls, Several Main Dish Modifications (including Dairy Free Potatoes) and Enjoy Life and Homefree Allergy Cookies. The Plant Based Bratwurst is the Original Flavor Beyond Sausage.

Akershus Food Allergy Review December 2022

For starters, the Bloomfield Farms allergy Friendly Rolls were available. These are made in a dedicated gluten free facility on a dedicated line, and labeled free from top 8 allergens. (only available commercially- so sad!) The butter was a cinnamon butter – I was not able to confirm if they had a Dairy Free Butter.

There was also a salad option as the appetizer. While my kids don’t do salads (yet), this was delightful for me! It had a great a balance of sweet and tangy with minimal ingredients. Called the ‘Field Greens Salad’

Then the main course was a family style tray. You can pick and choose what items you’d like, and if you are the only person in your family with allergies, you’ll get an individual platter. For us, we had plain Chicken, plain Salmon, Beyond Sausage, Olive Oil Mashed Potatoes, Red Cabbage and Greenbeans. Several of these items were modified, and this entire property is Top 8 free.

The Top 9 allergens as recognized by Disney are: Wheat/Gluten (listed together, ask in person for specifics!), Dairy/Milk, Soy (typically soy protein, sometimes leaves out lecithin and oil from menus), Egg, Peanut/Treenut (listed together, ask in person for specifics!), Fish/Shellfish (listed together, ask in person for specifics!). As of 2023, they are adding Sesame to new menus and menu updates.

Dessert was delicious! I grabbed the Rice Cream (contains Dairy) as the one across the pathway at Kringla Kafe contains soy (so it was my daughter’s first ever time trying it!) They also had Enjoy Life Cookies and HomeFree Cookies for dessert. So we got some Enjoy Life cookies (and took a few togo).

Would you enjoy this option? And Do I Recommend it?

Yes I’d recommend this option to anyone wanting a meal with Princesses! This is currently the only full princess meal at Disney World and reservations can be hard to come by.

    Final Summary

Good Food, Great Characters, Clear Allergy Menu, Several Allergy Modifications, Lovely Ambiance. Hard to get reservations though and took over 2 hours to get food/meet characters. Brings it to a 9/10.
