It’s always a wild time at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and the first restaurant you’ll find there is Rainforest Cafe!
We’ve been to Rainforest Cafe a number of times over the years with Food Allergies. It has steadily increased with time, and I’m happy to share that there have been some menu updates and options for dealing with Food Allergies and Gluten Free.
I grabbed a meal here and had a chance to talk to the Chef and Manager at the Animal Kingdom location. Options are pretty comparable between restaurants, though supply will vary. Let’s look at the options!

Food Options for Lunch and Dinner at Rainforest Cafe for Food Allergies and Gluten Free
First up, the Ancient Grain Bowl. It’s friendly for several allergens, no dairy, eggs or nuts. But it does have Gluten. It is one of the options marked “allergy friendly” so another great reminder not to assume and to always ask about ingredients and how the food is prepared.

Coming in with Gluten Free options they had several recommendations. There was Gluten Free Pasta and Gluten Free Buns for the burgers or a grilled chicken sandwich. Plus options Steak, Shrimp and Grilled Chicken. I wouldn’t recommend this location for a gluten free vegetarian/vegan.

Next up is soy… and “All forms soy” is not recommended. One of my kids is all forms, and she stayed home for this review because there’s very little here (like a grilled chicken with fruit). They do have Udi’s Buns which are all forms soy free. For those with just a soy protein, much of the menu can be modified as they use soy protein in very few dishes.

Peanut and Treenut can accommodate most items- there are peanuts and treenuts present- so consider your comfort levels.
Egg free options are next up! Quite a few no egg options BUT there is No egg free bread (so sorry- I know that’s a hard one) but again, most of the rest of the menu can be accommodate for egg. Options like Burgers, Salads, Steak, Shrimp and Grilled Chicken. Lots of the sides are egg free too.
Lastly Fish and Shellfish are both present in the restaurant. There are quite a number of fish and shellfish options too- but not as heavy as a Seafood centered restaurant. Consider skipping this if your concerned about cross contact (My Shellfish allergic husband is ok with it in the air, and did fine here, but we do skip all Seafood Restaurants with him)
They didn’t have the info on hand for sesame- but manager said it could be accommodated as they could check ingredients. Know ahead of time that allergens outside of the Top 8 most common allergens might take longer as it will require them to double check ingredients.
What about Breakfast?
Breakfast is not a great options here, as they have a few items, but it’s going to require patience and flexibility on your part to find and assemble safe options from the menu. I wouldn’t recommend this location if you are looking for a quick & low fuss meal.
Nearby Animal Kingdom you’ll find Boma, which has a fantastic Breakfast Spread (see the review for Boma with Food Allergies here)
Inside Disney’s Animal Kingdom you can find Tusker House Character Meal!
And if you are at Disney Springs- they currently don’t offer breakfast!
