New: Butterbeer Allergy Change for those with Dairy Restrictions [plus allergy details]

It’s a good day in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter! The Butterbeer is plentiful, the rides are working and we’ve got a new update on Modifications.

For those of you that didn’t know, Universal has a “rule” that the Butterbeer cannot be modified, but that rule prevented a lot of folks from enjoying a drink that could be made safely.

This week, we got word that you can now get the Butterbeer without the foam topping (making it without dairy)! YAY! So far this change is only at Universal Orlando

Why the change? It’s likely to do with the incredible team of plant based eaters at Universal Orlando. These Folks have really banded together and let UOR know that they wanted more plant based options.

When Universal delivered, the vegans enjoyed/shared/complimented the options. With the demand came more changes! Universal even named items after the “Universal Orlando Vegans” at one of the festivals.

One of the biggest things that the Vegans asked for was a friendly butterbeer. There was a petition that circulated around and many of us in the plant based and special diets community signed in the hopes that Universal could make it happen.

And happy news… Universal did some behind the scenes work with the “contract” that stated that Butterbeer had to be sold with the foam on top, so that we can modify the options! Big Thanks to Shelby, the UniversalOrlandoVegans community, and the Protego Foundation for all your hard work 🥳

New Butterbeer news in 2022 👏

New this week you can get both the regular and frozen butterbeer without the dairy foam topping.
When ordering be sure to disclose your allergen! See allergy details below

Here’s a look at the Allergy Details for Butterbeer

***As Always, please speak to a qualified restaurant employee when ordering food. In order to see the most accurate ingredients and risk assessment, you will need to confirm allergy safety in real-time. This is my personal experience, I am not employed or endorsed by companies or brands mentioned.***

Keep in mind that these are proprietary, and that it can change at any given time. Since I’ve been checking often, I’ve found three ingredients changes over the years (one removed soy).

The bottom base is made without any of the top 8 allergens (no wheat, dairy, soy, egg, nuts, fish or shellfish). I was not able to get information on allergens outside of the top 8. No info on manufacturing. For many folks, the Pumpkin Juice with clear ingredients may be a better option.

The top foam base contains dairy. You can now modify it to remove the dairy and have just a top 8 friendly bottom base.
